About the Diocese of Louisiana in Honduras
Long standing relationships of mission in Honduras are part of the history of the Diocese of Louisiana. At present, the Diocese is in an official "companion relationship" with two deaneries in Honduras (Copan and Maya). Terry Koehler has been appointed by Bishop Jenkins as Chair of the Diocesan Partners in Mission Committee, and Fr Koehler serves as a member of the committee.
About St. Luke’s in Honduras
St. Luke’s supports our Diocesan Companion relationship with Copan by focusing its work in three areas:
- To support the priest and his family so that they can better minister to their people.
- To build up the local churches through training and material support.
- To transform the communities through education and training.
Our Mission Trip - February 7-14 ‘09
Our Mission Team, was led by Terry Koehler and Deacon Reese Wiggins, in the village of Los Mayas, completing work on the school built to serve the children of the village. Most of the children are also members of the Episcopal Church congregation in Los Mayas (the only church in town!).
The work included exterior and interior painting, as well as outfitting the school for use in the academic year that began in mid-February.
Next Mission Trips:
1. Late September, ‘09
Our next mission trip will be a "look-see" tour to introduce the work of the Diocese of Louisiana in Honduras to interested participants from across the diocese or anywhere else! Visiting churches in the Maya and Copan Deaneries, attending an international conference where the Diocese of Louisiana will make a presentation, and participating in the Educatodos literacy teaching program for a weekend will be part of the trip.
2. February, 2010
The February, 2010 will be focused on team work in one or two of our Copan Deanery church communities; construction together with social and educational projects will be the program for the week. Details will be published later in 2009.
