St. Luke's Episcopal Day School

Our Day School is an integral part of our ministry, providing a program of quality instruction built upon a solid spiritual foundation.

Honduras Mission Trips
For more than ten years (dating back to youth trips led by Fr Joe and Tina Rhodes) St. Luke's has done mission work in Honduras. Most recently, in response to our diocesan companion relationship with the Deanery of Copan, we have begun regular mission visits to help build up the churches and pastors. About fourteen congregations ranging from well organized to barely organized comprise the Deanery; Fr. Juan Jose Diaz is the only priest in the Deanery.

Thank you for your interest in our outreach in Honduras.

About the Diocese of Louisiana in Honduras
Long standing relationships of mission in Honduras are part of the history of the Diocese of Louisiana.  At present, the Diocese is in an official "companion relationship" with two deaneries in Honduras (Copan and Maya).  Terry Koehler has been appointed by Bishop Jenkins as Chair of the Diocesan Partners in Mission Committee, and Fr Koehler serves as a member of the committee.

About St. Luke’s in Honduras
St. Luke’s supports our Diocesan Companion relationship with Copan by focusing its work in three areas:
  1. To support the priest and his family so that they can better minister to their people.
  2. To build up the local churches through training and material support.
  3. To transform the communities through education and training.

Our Next Team Trip: February, 2010

The February, 2010 will be focused on team work in one or two of our Copan Deanery church communities; construction together with social and educational projects will be the program for the week.

A small but important part of the trip will be dental hygiene instruction for the school children.  We will provide toothbrushes, but not toothpaste because North American style toothpaste is not available or affordable to the people.  They will be taught by local health officials to use methods and products available locally.

Contact us for information at the email links below!  Cost for an individual to participate is about $700 for a week (all inclusive except airfare).  Details of the February 2010 are available here.

If you would like to contribute to our work in Honduras, you may make a secure online donation below, send offerings to the Church, or place them in the offering plates at any worship service (please mark your checks "Honduras Missions”).  Our mission work in Honduras is not supported by the regular parish operating budget, but rather through special gifts from those who wish to help in that way.

For more information, please contact Fr. Koehler, or Terry Koehler.
