Adult Inquirer's Class

Have you ever wanted to know more about your faith? The church? The worship at St. Luke’s? Beginning on September 8 at 3 pm in the church library, this 10-week class explores topics like Scripture, Faith, The Book of Common Prayer, Worship, Sacraments, Spirituality, and God's call to ministry. Our son, Jon, has always had a unique perspective on life. I’ll always remember having this conversation with him about end-of-life. I asked him, “If I was quite sick, and you were told that measures could be taken that I would live, but be in pain, or if nature should take its course, what would you tell them to do?” He looked absolutely horrified and said, “I would tell them to call my sister.” I had to keep from laughing, and then told him, “Try again; think about how I have lived, what are my values, and what would I prefer to have happen?” He replied, “I would tell them to let nature take its course.” Yes, that was the right answer…but without this conversation, he may not have known wh

July 28: Backpack Giveaway

St. Luke's Episcopal and Greater St. Luke Baptist, two community churches united in service, are teaming up for "Back to the Books," a backpack giveaway scheduled for July 28 for pre-registered families. (Registration is now closed.) New backpacks filled with school supplies will be available that day from 3 pm until 5 pm at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church (132 N. 23rd Street in Baton Rouge). Aug. 2 & 3: EYC Lock-in

Julia Golding, our Youth Formation Director, has big plans for our EYC youth group, starting with a Lock-in on Friday, August 2. Aug. 3 & 4: Outreach Opportunity

Helping out at Thrive Academy is becoming an annual outreach event for us! Please consider volunteering on August 3 or August 4 for Thrive's Beautification Day. Storm Support Information

Dear friends in Christ, As Tropical Storm Barry makes its way further inland, a number of folks have asked whether or not we will have worship services on Sunday, July 14. And the answer is 'yes.' We plan to stick to our regular service schedule of 8 AM, 9 AM, 11:10 AM, and 5:30 PM. However, if you have any concerns about getting to church, please err on the side of caution and safety. School Supply Donations Needed

We’re teaming up with Greater St. Luke Baptist Church this month for “Back to the Books,” a school supply drive and outreach event. Our goal for this inaugural event is to provide 75 children with full backpacks, so let’s get to work! From now until July 21, please consider donating the following items: new backpacks, loose-leaf paper, single and 3-subject notebooks, composition notebooks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, crayons, folders, pencil boxes/pouches, Kleenex or paper towels, small paperback Bible or dictionary. Aug. 16-18: Happening Retreat

Happening is a youth-led spiritual formation weekend at the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center, designed for high school teens in grades 9-12 to connect with Christ and one another. Hosted by the Episcopal Church, you do not need to attend an Episcopal church or school to attend. Happening is a retreat based on building Christian community that is open and welcoming to all.
