Meet a Member: Lisa Lee

I’m originally from Ponchatoula, but now live in Denham Springs. My husband Brad and I have been married for seven years. We have two children, Madison (age 15), and Duncan (age 5). I'm a non-profit program director, currently earning a Master's in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University.

We moved to Denham Springs about seven years ago to be closer to our jobs in Baton Rouge. We had previously attended a Methodist church in Ponchatoula, but after we moved to Denham, the drive was just too far. We started looking for a church that celebrated the Eucharist every Sunday and had an active youth group for our daughter. We “church shopped” for several months but struggled to find a place that felt right. A friend suggested we try the Episcopal church, and St. Luke’s was the closest to us. We showed up to service one day, and I immediately felt at home. Everyone was very welcoming and really made it a point to greet us. Since then we have both become confirmed Episcopalians, and both our children have been baptized here.

My favorite church event is our Thanksgiving Day outreach, where we prepare dinners for about 500 people in need of a meal. It’s a wonderful way for our family to celebrate the real purpose of Thanksgiving and show how grateful we are by serving others!

My favorite St. Luke’s memories are chaperoning our youth urban mission trips to Houston, TX! Seeing our young people in action serving the needy is truly a joyful experience.

My favorite scripture is Matthew 25:40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

My favorite church service is the Christmas Eve service. The church is decorated beautifully and our choir sounds so heavenly singing our favorite Christmas hymns. It’s magical.

What I enjoy most about St. Luke’s is our sense of family. Over the past five years our family has been through a lot of very difficult times. Our clergy and fellow parishioners at St. Luke’s really stepped up and helped us in amazing and outstanding ways we didn’t even know we needed. We truly are a family!

Favorite vacation spots: Anywhere that’s affordable!

Favorite weekend activities: When we aren’t at church we are usually volunteering or serving our community

Favorite local meals or restaurants: We usually stick to restaurants around the Denham / Walker area – our favorite is Sombrero’s Mexican Restaurant in Walker!
