Funerals
The liturgy for the Burial of the Dead is one of the most beautiful worship services in the Episcopal Church. According to The Book of Common Prayer, "The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised" (p. 507).
The Prayer Book has both a Rite I (traditional language) and Rite II (contemporary language) burial service. We let the family decide which Rite would be most appropriate. It is also a good idea for persons to plan ahead and pick out the readings, hymns, and other details which they would like for their burial service.
