Fast facts about this ministry at St. Luke's Episcopal Church:
EfM is a theological educational program which supports our faith and also teaches us to express that faith in day-to-day events.
Every baptized person is called to ministry, and the EfM program 1) provides people with the education to carry out that ministry, and 2) develops an informed and knowledgable laity.
Through prayer, assigned readings with resource guides, and reflection in seminar groups, EfM participants study the entire sweep of Christian tradition, learn to think theologically, and develop skills to be effective ministers in the world.
The EfM group consists of six to twelve participants and a trained mentor who meet weekly over the course of a nine-month academic year.
The program consists of four academic years. New members study the Hebrew Bible; Year Two covers the New Testament; Year Three is the history of Christianity; and Year Four is Theology, Ethics, and Interfaith Encounters.
EfM at St. Luke's generally meets on Friday mornings. For more information, please call the church office at (225) 926-5343.
