Grief and Pandemic

A Note from Becky Williams, our Pastoral Care Facilitator

When all of information and news about COVID-19 came flying down, I began to feel much like I did after Katrina and Gustav…I just wanted to retreat, and hope that all of this would just go away. Those times were full of great unknowns, of chaos, of unwelcome changes in how I knew life was going to go. And yet again, here we go, facing similar challenges...

This time, though, it’s different. In researching information to share, it came to light that those were times of grief, and with all of the situations that needed a lot of energy then, I had not had time to realize--or process--that.

I found an article, entitled "This Pandemic of Grief" and written by Alan Wolfelt, Ph.D., and it is very comforting in not only discussing how this pandemic causes grief, but also in offering ways to process this feeling. I hope that you, too, will find it helpful. Read it here >> And always know that your Pastoral Care Team is available by phone, email, video chat….a listening ear is a great comfort. Call the office at (225) 926-5343, or- for urgent matters- please call us at (225) 773-2466.

May God hold you in the palm of his hand, and keep each of you safe and healthy.

Faithfully yours, Becky
