Every month, we'll shine the spotlight on one of the ministries that St. Luke's has to offer. There are plenty of organized ways that parishioners care for each other or engage in community outreach. We hope you'll get involved today!

Fast Facts:

  • St. Martha's began in 1999, approximately, as a response to the need for care for people who were going through a life event, such as a birth, hospitalization or death.
  • The ministry's scope has grown to include hosts/hostesses for funeral visitations held in Pope Hall. Other funeral help offered includes house-sitting during the visitation / funeral, getting folks from the airport, and a meal at home for 8.
  • The chair of St. Martha's Helping Hands, Brookie Allphin-Smith, and Pastoral Care Facilitator, Becky Williams, identify families in need of meals, then Brookie will contact St. Martha's team members by e-mail. Meals are freshly-cooked or fetched from the ministry's deep freezer in the church office, then delivered to families year-round.
  • For Pope Hall funeral visitations, St. Martha's provides either a sandwich tray and cookies, or an assortment of pastries depending on the time of day. During the visitation, the hostesses make sure the coffee, lemonade and water are replenished as needed, provide directions, and work to make this time as easy as possible for the family.
  • St. Martha's is funded solely by the generosity of parishioners and others. Financial gifts are always appreciated!
  • Anyone who knows of a parish family in need of a meal may contact Becky Williams or Brookie Allphin-Smith, or call the church office at (225) 926-5343.
